The 2020 Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition kicked off today. Under the leadership of the Taiwan Display Association (TDUA), the display industry has expanded its participation in the medical technology exhibition, while panel giants AUO and Innolux showcased their achievements and technologies in smart healthcare.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed people’s lifestyles and created new business opportunities in medical technology. In line with the government’s “Taiwan Display Technology and Application Action Plan” and the demand for pandemic-related medical solutions over the next four years, TDUA convened its member companies to participate in the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition for the first time. Exhibitors included AU Optronics, Innolux’s subsidiary Raytron Technology, Da Yun Precision, touch panel manufacturer GIS Group, Raytron Technology, EVE Energy, Chipin Machinery, Yukai Technology, and Meicheng Technology.
The exhibits fall into two main categories. The first is personal items, such as wearable physiological monitoring, personal protection, or early warning systems. The second is prevention, diagnosis, medical care, and health care projects, including medical-grade displays, X-ray flat panel image sensors, epidemic prevention devices and medical supplies, ward interactive information systems, diagnostic/medical device backend systems, and medical robots.
At the exhibition, AU Optronics and ADLINK Technology showcased their respective medical display products and technologies. AU Optronics provided ultra-high resolution (4K/2K) panels, which ADLINK remanufactured into integrated medical surgical display devices. These displays offer lifelike colors, allowing viewers to fully understand the surgical process. Even the finest details, such as blood vessels and organs, are clearly displayed on the screen. In addition to being installed in the operating room to transmit real-time surgical images to on-site medical staff, these displays can also be connected to control rooms and other locations for monitoring, providing surgical feedback to assist in procedures, and can also be used for internships. Currently, a hospital in Hanover, Germany, has adopted this system.
Innolux’s subsidiary, Rayson Optoelectronics, manufactures X-ray FPDs entirely in China, from key components to the complete unit, and produces over 50% of the world’s key TFT components for digital X-rays. The global COVID-19 pandemic has led to an overwhelming number of patients undergoing chest X-ray examinations, placing immense pressure on healthcare workers. Utilizing AI technology to assist healthcare professionals in interpreting X-rays and providing information on suspicious symptoms acts as the doctor’s “eyes,” aiding in the accurate and rapid identification of lesions and reducing gaps in epidemic prevention.
Ko Fu-jen, Chairman of TDUA and General Manager of AU Optronics, believes that the pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation of the global healthcare industry. Taiwanese panel manufacturers have a significant advantage in the global medical display market, with AU Optronics and Innolux currently producing 50% of the world’s medical display panels. By integrating the medical, ICT, and display industries, Taiwan can promote the development of the smart healthcare industry. With the support of the government’s Southbound Policy and the World Cup, Taiwan’s medical technology capabilities are expected to expand from domestic demand to exports. Smart healthcare will be Taiwan’s next development opportunity.
